Recovery and Reconstruction of a Warehouse
In this article, we describe a new design challenge that sees Gabbi Building Solution involved in the recovery and reinterpretation of an existing building: a former warehouse that partially collapsed and now becomes the opportunity to shape a contemporary architectural intervention, capable of combining memory, functionality, and a renewed identity.
The project stems from the intention to transform a compromised structure into a renewed and coherent architectural organism, clearly readable and well integrated into its context. The reconstruction of the ground floor is based on the use of brickwork, a solid and reliable material, externally clad in aluminum. This choice allows the project to maintain a connection with traditional materiality while introducing a contemporary, clean, and durable architectural language.
On the upper floor, the project takes a decisive step toward lightness and innovation through the introduction of an X-LAM structure. This solution reduces structural loads, improves energy performance, and adopts a sustainable construction system. The corten steel cladding gives the volume a strong and recognizable character, capable of dialoguing with time and its surroundings through its natural chromatic evolution.
The contrast between the more solid base and the lightweight upper volume becomes a central element of the design: a balance between stability and contemporaneity, between industrial memory and new use. The architectural composition is based on different yet complementary materials, carefully combined to enhance their qualities and create a harmonious and coherent whole.
On the right side of the building, a stepped seating area is planned, currently still under development, which will become a key element of the outdoor space. Conceived as a place for gathering and social interaction—similar to a small open-air theater—the steps will offer an informal setting designed to extend the building’s function beyond its physical boundaries.
This intervention confirms Gabbi Building Solution’s approach to regeneration projects: transforming critical conditions into opportunities through the use of contemporary materials, sustainable solutions, and a vision focused on architectural quality and the future use of spaces. A project that looks forward, starting from what already exists, to build new possibilities.
